This exciting collaboration with the production design team created a high impact stage set design and build in-time and under budget.
Our assignment: Create a stage set designed to have the look and feel of the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, although filming was in an existing theater in Louisiana.
In process you can see the aluminum tube metal frames and white stretch fabric that create the large surfaces. The lighting designers then work the set to create a variety of looks.
Each structure is individually manufactured to the specs that the production designers and our creative team agreed on. 3D design software helps to communicate and create accurate sculptures from the renderings.
As you could see the scale was quite large! Thirty (30′) feet tall to be exact! These structures towered over us yet created the perfect theater setting for “Pitch Perfect 2″!
Keeping the budget in mind we simplified the outer “wings” creating a fabric hanging that has a minimal amount of structure yet gives the visual intention desired.
This custom designed collaboration is exactly what The Originators do! On this project, “Pitch Perfect 2″, we loved working with the production designer and design team to create giant visuals that capture the audiences imagination.
